The reasons for enjoying Frans van Baars’ artwork are as many and varied as the shades of colors he uses so brilliantly. He combines his natural talent, training, and life experiences to create artwork that hang in permanent collections all over the world. The giclée prints of the van Baars collection represents the very best original paintings Frans has created.

For the past 40 years Frans has explored the back roads and familiar places of the East Coast with a sketchbook and watercolors to develop his God-given artistic talent. Painting on location allows him to capture the spirit as well as form of a place. Looking at his artwork evokes memories of times you have spent in your favorite places.

Born in 1936 in Holland, the son of a merchant marine captain, Frans experienced both the horror of war-torn Europe, and later the exhilaration of visiting ports around the world with his family during summer vacations. He set out alone before he turned twenty to start a new life in America.

By the mid-1960s Frans was serving in the U.S. Navy, had become an American citizen, married and had started a family. His despair when he broke his neck in an accident aboard a submarine turned to joy when he discovered a way to capture the hope he saw in a plant finding life in the brick wall outside his hospital window. After being medically discharged from the navy he enrolled in and completed art school. Since the early 1970s he has lived and worked in North Carolina.

Our giclée (pronounced gee-clay) prints are produced and framed by dedicated technicians. We use the very latest in computer technology to transform Frans’s vision of the world into a variety of art products that are available in different sizes. Our giclée prints will remain colorfast for decades even when exposed to bright light. Frans begins work on each print edition out in nature and continues in his studio until the final painting is ready to be printed. The artwork is digitally transferred to the computer, then the prints are produced using the best paper and finally carefully inspected before packaging and or framing.
